Leeds Student Medical Practice Patient Participation Group Meeting with Leeds University Union Student Representatives

Leeds Student Medical Practice (LSMP) and Leeds University Union (LUU) representatives met in late November 2025 to follow up on the Patient Participation Group (PPG) Meeting held in June 2025.

The meeting provided a constructive forum to review progress on previously identified challenges, including streamlining registration, improving service accessibility, promoting equality and inclusivity, and strengthening links between LSMP, the student community and the University.

The main topics discussed included:

Actions from previous meeting (June 2025):
Registration Events: LSMP fed back positively regarding increased presence at this year’s University student registration events, including international and wellbeing events.

Navigating the NHS: Additional information was provided to help international students better understand available NHS services.

Communications: Potential ways to broaden communication about the NHS/LSMP services more widely to students in LUU were explored.

Access for Underrepresented Groups (Health Inequalities): Identifying ways to address disparities in student healthcare access for carers, disabled, neurodivergent and international students.

Physical Activity and Wellbeing:
Strengthening links between LSMP and University of Leeds/LUU services and societies focused on physical activity and wellbeing.
Exploring collaborative opportunities and reciprocal signposting to improve awareness and accessibility.

Establishing a Student Feedback Loop:
Enhancing LSMP’s services by encouraging student input, either through direct attendance at future meetings, or via Student Representatives.

The group plans to meet again in the Spring term to review progress and consider next steps to further improve the patient experience.”
